Audi’s staple electric cars – the e-tron SUV and its coupe-like Sportback version – will soon undergo serious modernization that will land them with new styling and tech.
Both models (our gallery contains photos and a video of their current versions) will get their mid-life treatment in the second half of 2022, gaining new battery options, electric motors and improved regenerative braking. As a result, the driving range should increase to approximately 600 kilometers, or 373 miles. The current 95-kWh battery maxes out at 436 km, or 271 miles.
According to the plan, the models will continue to be available until at least 2025, after which a flagship so far speculatively named the Q8 e-tron will arrive to phase out both.
Another newcomer called Q6 e-tron should arrive in 2023 sporting a versatile coupe/SUV body of Q5-like dimensions. It will be comparable to the larger Q7 in terms of interior space thanks to being based on the PPE platform designed from the ground up for electric cars. The second-gen Porsche Macan will later debut based on the same drivetrain and chassis.
Even sooner than that, Audi expects to produce a clone of the Volkswagen ID.6, its second MEB-based model after the Q4 e-tron. The company will make and sell it exclusively in China, beginning with the Audi-SAIC factory and then launching production on Audi-FAW as well.
