Audi has no intention to keep its smallest and most affordable crossover – the Q2 – on the lineup any longer than the current generation.
According to CEO Markus Duesmann, the company will instead prioritize larger upmarket models. When the first generation reaches the end of its market life, the Q2 will vanish into history.
This decision is in line with Audi’s recent upmarket trend. The company wants to distance itself from mass-market brands of Volkswagen AG and inch closer to Porsche and Bentley, as well as redirect the money thus saved to other, more profitable projects.
In addition to this, the company envisions a gradual electrification of its entire range. By 2026, all new Audis are supposed to be electrified, and by 2030, no ICE cars should be produced anymore.
The Audi Q2 debuted six years ago based on the same architecture as the Skoda Kamiq and the Volkswagen T-Roc. New versions came later, including the performance-packed SQ2 and the long-wheelbase Q2L. In 2020, the wallet-friendly crossover received a mid-life update. Just how much longer it will continue to be available is uncertain.
