Audi unveils the Q3 Sportback

The second-gen Audi Q3 may have debuted a year ago, but it wasn’t until now that the company showed us its Sportback version. The coupe-shaped crossover SUV comes with a distinctly slanted roof and slightly tweaked overall design.

Unlike the range-topping Q7, which has been given the somewhat misleading ‘Q8’ designation, the compact car keeps its number 3 intact. This is perhaps because Audi is currently working on an all-electric SUV called the Q4.

The second generation still has 2,680 millimeters (8.8 ft.) of wheelbase while being 16 mm (0.6”) longer and 29 mm (1.1”) less tall than before. It ships with an assortment of wheels ranging from 17 to 20 inches across.

Without doubt, the slanted roof ate away some of the interior space. As a result, rear passengers have to be under 180 cm (5’ 11”) tall to feel comfortable inside. The rear sofa is separated into two seats. both of which can be moved back or forward within a 130 mm (5.1”) range. The trunk volume amounts to 530 liters (18.7 cubic feet) by default, but you can push back or even fold the seats to get up to 1,400 l (49.5 cu.ft.).

Other than that, the cabin stays stock. There is a digital dashboard and a center display, both available in 10.25” and 12.3” versions.

When the 2020 Audi Q3 Sportback ships, it will do so in three versions: 2.0-liter gasoline (230 hp / 132 kW), 2.0-liter diesel (150 hp / 112 kW), and another 2.0-liter diesel (190 hp / 142 kW). The entry-level Sportback will only be available with FWD and stick shift, while all other trim versions will have AWD and 7-G S tronic transmission.  Later on, a 1.5-liter gasoline version becomes available with 150 hp (112 kW) and partical cylinder deactivation for greater fuel efficiency.

Options will include sports-grade springs and adjustable shock absorbers.

Sales in Europe will begin in the coming autumn.
