Audi launches Q4 e-tron production in Zwickau

The Audi Q4 e-tron, the marque’s first battery crossover SUV assembled domestically, has entered production at the VW factory in Zwickau, Germany.

The larger e-tron SUV is so far only manufactured in Belgium and China. The Q4 e-tron is currently being assembled alongside the ID.4 and a pre-production batch of the ID.5. Audi advertises it as a relatively affordable admission ticket to the premium EV market. The exterior remains a mystery (we only have camo-wrapped spy shots so far), but the interior has already been revealed.

The Q4 e-tron will be revealed on official terms in mid-April, with sales in Europe scheduled for the summer. A technically similar coupe-SUV will join the lineup later.

Recent Audi releases include the e-tron GT, a sedan that debuted in February based on the J1 architecture of the Porsche Taycan. In 2022, the company plans to launch its first production car on the PPE platform co-designed with Porsche. It hopes to have two dozen battery EVs and PHEVs on offer by mid-2020s.
