Audi is selling a number of cars in the USA right now that are missing certain electronic assists and features. According to Reddit users, the carmaker makes fun of the fact with some roundabout naming.
Specifically, the affected cars are listed as having a preinstalled option pack called “Semiconductor Shortage Package”, which adds a negative $1,200-$1,350 USD to the total, resulting in a discount. At least one A4 Allroad and one Q5 SUV were documented to have this “package” in their listings.
Removed features include adaptive cruise control, lane monitoring, as well as other driver assist systems and handy features, like wireless phone charging.
Users quote dealerships admitting that there will be no way to put these missing options back into cars when the semiconductor crisis blows over. They also complain that the discounts provided do not nearly match the value loss on such crucial options. A few potential customers have even commented that they would no longer consider buying an Audi anymore.
