Audi has opened the pre-order books in China for the Q6, its largest crossover SUV ever that will not go on sale beyond its home country. According to AutoHome, the vehicle will debut with two exterior designs to choose from, two cabin layouts and three powertrains priced from 500,000 CNY (just under 75,000 USD currently).
The car is a whale by Audi standards at 5,099 mm long, 2,014 mm wide and 1,784 mm tall with 2,980 of wheelbase. It follows the automaker’s general design guidelines, but draws inspiration from Chinese cultural tradition and mythical animals as well – such as the unicorn, for example. Buyers can choose from two body styles dubbed the Sport Face and Design Face, although the differences seem to boil down to the amount of chrome all around and the bumper/apron design.
The cabin has three seat rows, but for the middle row, you can choose between a sofa for three or two individual seats with a host of adjustments, ventilations and massage. The standard trim already includes LED lighting, leather in the cabin and a digital cockpit with three displays.
When it starts shipping, the SUV will only be available with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine boosted to either 231 PS (228 hp / 170 kW) or 265 PS (261 hp / 195 kW). Both have AWD straight from the box. Later on, a range-topping 50 TFSI quattro spec will debut with a 2.5-liter V6 capable of 299 PS (295 hp / 220 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. This one will be available in a maxed-out special series called ‘edition one’, which will set you back 650,000 CNY (nearly 97,200 USD) with all boxes ticked.
