Florida-based Coast to Coast Customs delivered an unusual order the other day. An owner of an Audi Q8 retrofitted with huge 26-inch wheels came in and asked for a still larger set.
Forgiato handled the fabrication, producing a quartet of deep-dish, solid “moon discs” with slim cuts to imitate traditional spokes. They affixed their “F” logo on the hubcaps, making sure it stayed upright at all times, and finished every wheel in shiny chrome. What is long out of fashion in the whole world doesn’t have to be out of fashion in Florida, after all.
It would be a simple and goofy modification not worth mentioning here if CCC hadn’t revealed just how challenging it was to fit the 76.8-cm large rims inside the wheel arches of the Q8. The tuner had to find a better mounting point for the intercooler, move sensors around and even cut alloy the front suspension arms apart to weld them later. Failing to do so would just render the SUV impossible to steer properly.
The owner has already tried out the result and seemed fine with it. We are told that the Q8 handles similarly to the original, if not exactly the same.
