This 1984 Audi Quattro has spent its entire 39 years of life sitting in a garage and is now up for grabs in pristine condition, with the owner hoping to get at least £20,000.
A British farmer purchased the sports car from a dealership in Southampton. Neither the owner nor his heirs actually drove it. The Quattro was optioned with a sunroof, heated seats, a Blaupunkt audio system, anti-fog lights and a headlight washer. The car comes bundled with a full package of documents and a spare wheel set.
Both the body and the cabin are in excellent condition, only needing a wash-up and some minor cleaning. The drivetrain is literally zero-mileage, though, which is not necessarily a good thing in view of all the potential issues it might have accumulated over the years. Whoever resolves to buy the car will likely spend a few grand extra to bring it on the road.
The engine is a longitudinally mounted inline five-cylinder turbo with 2.1 liters of displacement, 200 horsepower (150 kW) and 285 Nm (210 lb-ft) of torque. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) succeeds in 7.1 seconds and the top speed is specified as 220 km (136 mph) – at least, in theory, because this car has yet to be driven. A five-speed manual transmission conveys the torque to a Quattro AWD system.
Audi has made 11,452 such vehicles in 1980–1991. The model is regarded as fairly rare and collection-worthy (see video). It is also believed to have started the trend of putting all-wheel drives into light passenger cars, something that was considered unnecessary in the past.
