Audi R8 gets blown to bits in fantastic 3D

Swiss photographer and artist Fabian Oefner has released another one in a series of his photographic works representing cars “falling apart” into the smallest bits and pieces in 3D. This time around, Oefner chose to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Audi R8 on the U.S. car market.

To make the 3D “explosion” effect as powerful as possible, the Audi engineer team had to tear down the rear part of the supercar completely, including the cooling system, the on-board power network, the entire transmission and the engine. Fabian made a photo of each individual part before bringing them all together once again in a graphics editor.

One of Oefner’s earlier works was a similar mock-up of a 47-year-old Lamborghini Miura SV. The owner of the car wanted it completely restored anyway, so he allowed Oefner to have it disassembled and take photos of around 1,500 parts. It took 24 months for the artist to complete the piece.
