In normal conditions, you would expect the modern Audi R8 to outpace the dynamic, but rather dated TT RS model effortlessly. In the video below, both are tuned to above a thousand horsepower and look ready to wipe the floor with each other.
Starting with the apparent outsider of the race, it is the Audi TT RS that usually uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine to get 400 PS (395 hp / 295 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. This example, however, had its engine rebuilt from the ground up with a new, massive turbo and a methanol injection system, among other high-end upgrades. The result is an output of 1,000 hp (750 kW) or so in a ride weighing 1,380 kg (3,042 pounds).
Of course, it would be unfair to leave the R8 in stock condition, and this one is anything but. Its 5.2-liter V10 makes use of twin Garrett GTX35 turbos, a titanium exhaust system and an improved low-pressure fuel pump. The output is even wilder at 1,100 hp (820 kW), but you have to allow for the weight difference: the R8 weighs 1,615 kg (3,560 pounds).
There is simply no sense for us to spoil the outcomes of the races, because both Audis knocked our expectations clean out of the ballpark, showing sub-10-second quarter-mile times within hundredths of seconds from one another. Just find the time and watch it when you can, you won’t be disappointed!
