Audi may be sending the R8 to its final retirement, but these recent spy shots suggest that it will get a hardcore special edition before saying goodbye. The modifications make it look like the track-only GT3 version, but note the number plate.
The media seem to agree that the test car pictured here is none other than a street-legal R8 GT3 designed by Scherer Sport, which has been cooperating with Audi Sport for a while now. Rumor has it the production will be capped at 100 units, and the entire batch could have been pre-sold already.
Compared to the standard car (see video), the R8 looks markedly different with its large rear wing, roof scoop and air vents in the arches and the rear.
