Audi USA has shared a video titled The Last Lap. It is the company’s means of saying farewell to the R8, with a story composed by the supercar’s devoted fans. The R8 production in Neckarsulm, Germany will be over by the end of the year.
The automaker had conducted a survey of sorts on the Internet a while ago, asking R8 enthusiasts to share their ideas on the R8 farewell movie. Users were prompted to specify the filming location, the time of day, the background music and the specific actions performed by the driver.
In the resulting video, Audi managed to condense a remarkable variety of these suggestions, showing a racetrack, a closed-off section of the highway, urban streets, and a parking lot with a megalopolis in the background. The R8 races down the track, kicks off some impressive slides, cruises down a street in melancholy, and more.
Different generations of the model have participated in the filming, starting from a manual version with a 4.2-liter V8 under the hood and ending with the state-of-the-art R8 GT RWD variant packing 620 horsepower from a V10, a rear wing and a dedicated Drift Mode.
