Audi began preparing for the impending discontinuation of its R8 coupe lineup in October 2022 with the “final” GT RWD Edition. Reports are now coming in that new cars continue to be made in Neckarsulm, Germany as the demand is still there.
According to Motor1, the R8 was set to go completely out of production by the end of 2023. Liza Kellner, a representative of the company, has now revealed that Audi set that deadline back in 2019 when it wasn’t sure how well the R8 would perform in the coming years. Now that the demand has proven to be greater than expected, the production would continue until the end of Q1 2024.
The Ingolstadt automaker has yet to publish its sales report for the past year. It should happen during the next financial statement to investors scheduled on March 13. Even so, it is clear that the R8 has been doing fine lately, with 631 units sold in the USA in 2023 as opposed to just 314 in 2022. That’s a year-on-year growth of 101%.
