Audi reveals new RS 3 specs and details

The next RS 3 generation is well underway, and here are some fresh bits of information to keep you excited, along with some photos and a video.

According to Audi, the main mechanical difference comes in the guise of an improved AWD system, which is now identical to that of the Volkswagen Golf R. The multi-plate clutch is no longer present, replaced with dual separate clutches mounted one per axle drive shaft at the rear end. This design should result in improved torque vectoring, letting the system direct more momentum to the left wheel during right turns and vice versa. As soon as the turn is completed, both wheels once again get the same amount of torque.

The video focuses on the revamped Sports drive mode. As you can see, the torque vectoring system redirects all torque to the rear wheels, enabling long periods of controlled drifting. During casual driving, all torque gets sent to the front wheels. There are seven modes in total for those interested.

As for the engine, its power output remains unchanged at 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW), while the torque rises from 480 to 500 Nm (354 to 369 lb-ft). The car now launches 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.8 seconds instead of 4.1 and maxed out at 250 km/h (155 mph). You can pay extra to push the limit to 290 km/h (180 mph).
