Audi refreshes the RS 3

The Ingolstadt automaker has completed updating its A3 lineup by introducing the last missing models – the RS 3 hatchback and sedan. They can already be preordered in Germany starting from €66,000 and €68,000, respectively, with offline sales set to begin in October.

New headlights are a major feature of the facelift. The DRLs at the top now sport a checkered flag pattern that drivers can change to any of the three other available light patterns from the infotainment display. The three wide slits visible above the front splitter are a stylistic nod to the Audi Sport quattro S1 Pikes Peak from 37 years ago. The radiator grille and the side vents stay more or less the same shape, but get new diamond mesh inserts.

A look at the rear end reveals a new bumper with diffuser and redesigned taillights, as well as larger oval tailpipes. The wheel arches house new 19-inch wheels shod in different tires. Those aiming for a sportier look straight from the factory may opt for a 10-spoke, racing-style wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slicks.

Inside, the steering wheel is now squared off from both ends and not just from below. The two red buttons around the middle can be used to activate RS Performance and RS Individual drive modes. The digital dashboard boasts a new UI and an improved feature set, letting you track all kinds of real-time telemetry, such as lap times. Carbon-backed seats with enhanced lumbar support are optional.

Like before, the RS 3 gets its propulsion from a 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine rated at 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission carries the torque to either the front wheels or all four via a part-time AWD system. Each rear wheel has its own, individual AWD coupling.

Sprinting 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) still takes 3.8 seconds, and the top speed amounts to 290 km/h (180 mph). At the same time, the car gets a new smart feature called the RS Torque Splitter and benefits from chassis tweaks letting it pass corners faster and with less rolling.
