Audi RS 6 Avant RS Tribute edition hits USA with superwagon power and nostalgia

A year ago, Audi celebrated 25 years of the RS 2 Avant, its first RS model co-designed with Porsche. To commemorate that project, the company launched Anniversary Package “25 years of RS” Edition in Europe, and today, a similar series comes to the United States.

Called Audi RS 6 Avant RS Tribute edition, the exclusive batch of wagons is limited to just 25 units priced from $137,000. This represents a healthy premium over the normal RS 6 Avant’s $109,000.

Every vehicle wears a Nogaro Blue paintjob just like the original RS 2 Avant and rides on silvery 22-inch wheels concealing red brake calipers. The cabin comes trimmed with black upholstery, blue stitching and carbon fiber inserts.

From the technical point of view, the U.S.-spec wagon is identical to its European relative. It still weighs 2.3 metric tons (around 5,070 lbs) and packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 good for 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed transmission sends the momentum to all four wheels using an active rear differential. Sprinting from zero to 60 mph (0-97 km/h) takes the same 3.6 seconds, but the top speed is higher in the North American spec. The EU version comes clamped at 250 km/h (155 mph), while the US one can get to 280 km/h (174 mph) with normal brakes and 306 km/h (190 mph) with the optional carbon-ceramic brakes.
