The BMW M3 Touring and the Audi RS6 Avant both fall into the ‘performance estate car’ category, but they aren’t exactly the same. Carwow decided to find out which one fares better at straight-line acceleration.
The test run took place in bad weather, but, as they say in sports, the conditions were equal for all participants.
Beginning with the Audi RS6 Avant, it commands eight cylinders with four liters of displacement, 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. In turn, the M3 utilizes a three-liter inline-six mill capable of 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque.
The RS6 Avant outweighs its rival with 2,075 kg (4,575 pounds), while the Bavarian family hauler tips the scales at just 1,865 kg (4,112 pounds).
Both are all-wheel-drive by design, but Audi’s Quattro AWD is particularly praised for its excellent performance in all weather conditions. Knowing this, would you still be rooting for the BMW?
