Audi has taken the wraps off two new performance SUVs, the RS Q3 and the RS Q3 Sportback.
Both compact crossovers received an upgraded version of their old-and-proven five-cylinder turbo engine. Among other things, Audi Sport has succeeded in lowering the weight of the unit by the total of 26 kilograms (57.3 pounds). The aluminum case shaved off 18 kg (40 lbs) and the hollow crankshaft another 1 kg (2.2 lbs).
Compared to the previous-gen RS Q3 Performance, both cars gain a boost from 367 hp (274 kW) to 400 hp (298 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. Mated to a seven-speed S tronic transmission and all-wheel drive, the upgraded mill accelerates them from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds. The speed limit still resides at 250 km/h (155 mph), but you may pay extra for a lift to 280 km/h (174 mph).
This makes the new RS Q3 faster than the old one as far as the sprint time is concerned, but 0.1 s slower than the old Performance.
Standard features are limited to sports suspension (-10 mm / -0.2” ride height) and six-piston brake calipers. Options include adaptive shock absorption and carbon-ceramic brakes with aluminum monoblock calipers.
On the outside, the new RS range boasts a differently designed radiator grille, new bumpers, tailgate spoiler, 20- or 21-inch wheels, and RS Sport exhaust system with black tips. Finally, customers now have two additional paint choices: Nardo Grey and Kyalami Green.
