Ken Block’s last Gymkhana episode goes live

Hoonigan has shared the unfinished and never released second episode of Elektrikhana on YouTube, filmed with Ken Block in Mexico in November last year prior to the legendary stunt driver’s untimely demise in a snowmobile accident.

In late 2022, Block and the Hoonigan team went to Mexico City to shoot a new Elektrikhana series with the racing driver behind the wheel of his shiny new Audi S1 Hoonitron EV.

The action in the video here takes place at the world’s largest bullfighting arena, Plaza de Toros, as well as at the Benito Juárez International Airport, the Museo Soumaya and other famous Mexican landmarks. The whole Elektrikhana project was shelved immediately following Block’s death from tumbling down a treacherously steep snowbank in his rental snowmobile on January 3, 2023.

The S1 Hoonitron has been upgraded for the second episode of the show based on the data gathered while filming the pilot Elektrikhana in Los Angeles. The car ended up with an upgraded transmission to allow for more aggressive stunt driving.

An imitated gearbox with paddle shifters has been added as well for improved handling in turns and controlled slides. EVs normally deliver tons of instant torque to the wheels as soon as the accelerator pedal is pressed, but the Hoonitron had to ditch this feature in favor of superior overall handling. For a car already capable of turning its front and rear wheels in the opposite directions or quickly going in reverse from any speed, these mods were just minor finishing touches.

The one-off S1 had 680-PS (671-hp / 500-kW) of combined e-motor power and sourced its energy from four individual battery packs rated at 14.4 kWh each.
