Entering the world of professional rally sports can be expensive, exhausting and time-consuming all at once, but Jay Bullington from JXB Performance had a very clear plan to retrofit an Audi S6 for wintertime rally driving.
The German luxury saloon is not even remotely associated with such conversions, yet this particular example has changed hands many times since 2013 and survived an engine swap. As such, it provided a good basis for the project. Jay and his two colleagues replaced the entire intake and exhaust systems, upgraded the fuel system and persuaded the engine to output more than 650 horsepower (480 kilowatts).
An all-new, custom-made tube-frame replaced the rear end of the car, along with a cellular radiator grille and new front arches shod in studded tires. The modifications added around 91 kg (200 pounds) to the weight of the front, but resulted in an extremely robust vehicle that survived a few rounds of driving on snow banks and ice without so much as a scratch.
Jay admits that the tube frame had originally been designed as a removable part, but the team later decided it looked aesthetic enough never to bother with returning the OEM nose.
