New 2020 Audi S8 won’t get any diesel engines

As you probably know, Audi has been gradually shifting its entire high-performance ‘S’ lineup to diesel drivetrains. The S6, S7, SQ7 and SQ8 have already made the switch, so we expected the next-gen S8 sedan/saloon to follow suit. Surprisingly enough, Audi just announced the specs, and it looks like the car will be getting a gasoline V8 TT instead.

Specifically, the 2020 Audi S8 ships with a 4.0-liter V8 TFSI engine rated at 571 hp (426 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb×ft) of torque, which represents an improvement of 51 hp (38 kW) and 150 Nm (111 lb×ft) over the predecessor model. A hybrid system composed of a starter-generator and a 48V power source assists the engine during acceleration and coasting. The car uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and an Audi Quattro permanent AWD system to send the torque to both axles.

Even in its most basic version, the new Audi S8 ships with air suspension, rear-wheel steering, active rear diff lock, and electromechanical roll stabilizers. Carbon-ceramic brakes are available as a paid option.

On the outside, the ‘warmed-up’ S8 sports silver-tinted mirror caps, its own 21-inch wheel set and four round exhaust pipes.

The cabin boasts assorted carbon trim elements with a ‘fake 3D’ look, as well as S logos throughout.

The car will arrive on the market in Europe before the end of 2019 priced starting from €120,000. In addition to the normal model, a long-wheelbase (LWB) version will be available in the USA.
