Audi SQ7 and SQ8 gain a new 500HP petrol engine in Europe

Audi has announced the new “TFSI” spec for its SQ7 and SQ8 in Europe. Both SUVs get 507 PS (500 hp / 373 kW), 770 Nm (568 lb-ft) of torque, 8-speed Tiptronic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Right now, customers in Europe can only purchase either model with a 4.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine assisted by an electric supercharger for 435 hp (324 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft). No other options are provided.

The new TFSI spec features the more conventional twin-turbo petrol V8 instead, which takes the bulky crossovers from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds – 0.7 s faster than the diesel powertrain can do.

On an interesting side note, while the new engine comes with no assistant electric motor of any kind, it manages to be quite fuel-efficient thanks to the selective cylinder deactivation feature (up to four cylinders can be temporarily switched off for fuel saving).

The new Audi SQ7 TFSI and SQ8 TFSI will hit the showroom floors in the fall of 2020 priced starting from €93,287 and €101,085, respectively.
