The Dark Horse: Audi TT RS does a quarter mile in 9.7s

The lackluster exterior of the Audi TT RS does a perfect job of concealing a potent 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine rated at 400 hp (298 kW). Many people who have no idea just how powerful the sports car is usually end up nonplussed by its crazy acceleration performance. Perhaps APR wanted to take advantage of its unassuming looks, too, when it pitted a tuned-up copy up against a 911.

In just three days, the British tuner team came up with a power kit for the German coupe that included a TTE700 Hybrid Turbo unit, better fuel injectors, a larger fuel pump, an APR intercooler, and an ECU update. Once applied, it raised the output to a stellar 734 hp (547 kW).

Wasting no time, the tuner arranged for a quarter-mile drag race where it put its tuned Audi TT RS up against several worthy competitors, including a modded Porsche 911 Turbo S. But even the latter proved no match for the ‘dark horse’, which covered the distance in 9.7 seconds and accelerated to 231 km/h (144 mph) as it did so. The Turbo S only managed to cross the finish line in 9.98 seconds.
