Aurus Komendant patent shots leak online

Car spotters had sighted the Aurus Komendant multiple times before, but this is the first time we get to see the Russian luxury SUV without any disguise on.

The final design of the car differs from its earlier versions as far as the brake lights and exhaust tips are concerned, and looks similar to the vehicle we saw testing in Sweden this winter. Overall, the Komendant resembles the Senat sedan, but with different headlights, air intakes and front grille bezel.

The car derives its name from the Komendant Tower of the Moscow Kremlin (“Commandant’s” or “Warden’s” Tower in English). It features the same chassis as its Senat and Arsenal siblings, but the manufacturer touts the SUV as its main model and expects it to become a bestseller. In fact, even the Senat has plenty of ground clearance and ride height for a luxury four-seater.

As for the cabin, the first shots leaked online last spring. Based on these, the interior is nearly identical to that of the Senat.

Powering the SUV is a 4.4-liter V8 TT rated at 598 PS (590 hp, or 440 kW), which links to a proprietary nine-speed automatic transmission called KATE and a battery. All-wheel drive with front-axle coupling is included in all trims.

Aurus has postponed the launch of the Komendant several times, and the last time we heard of it, it was 2022. The Aurus Senat should go on sale next year.
