BAC has shipped the first out of the 30 planned units of its Mono R single-seater. In accordance with the request of its European buyer, the car received a special livery inspired by the video game Wipeout.
The man who bought it described his emotions from driving the Mono R with his feelings from flying the assorted fantastic aircrafts in the game. It took designed Eddie Wainwright and game developer Nick Burcombe ten days to paint the vehicle according to the colors of the FEISAR racing team from the game. The finished car went for £191,000.
The BAC Mono R debuted last year (see video) and is both lighter and faster than the Mono model that preceded it, mainly thanks to extensive use of magnesium alloys and carbon/graphene composites. It also features carbon-ceramic brakes and a titanium exhaust system. Its 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine enjoys a bump from 309 to 345 PS (305 – 340 hp, or 227 – 254 kW, respectively), allowing it to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.5 seconds and max out at 274 km/h (170 mph). The curb weight is as low as 555 kg (1,224 pounds).
All 30 units had been sold out before the official launch.
