BAIC has launched a new variant of its Beijing BJ212 off-roader for China. Dubbed the National Tribute Edition, it makes use of a potent turbocharged engine.
The 2.4-liter unit produces 211 PS (208 hp / 155 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque, and is compliant with the current environmental standards of the country. A six-speed manual transmission delivers the power to the wheels. Prices start from 94,800 Yuan.
The standard BJ212 is much less powerful with its 1.5-liter engine linked to a five-speed gearbox and part-time AWD rated at only 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque.
The model has been in production for 56 long years now, and received its latest refresh last year, gaining in size thanks to an enlarged frame and trading leaf springs for coils. The 2000 BAIC BJ212 also features per-wheel suspension at the front end and comes with new optional equipment.
