Baojun, a Chinese car brand owned by SAIC-GM-Wuling joint enterprise, has registered a new vehicle called the Yunguang in the country’s patent database, allowing us to have a look at its exterior and technical specifications.
The Baojun brand, which had previously specialized in subcompact EVs (see video), has now switched its attention to large sedans. The Yunguang is the first entry in an impending lineup, and it is coming to us in PHEV and BEV variants. You can tell one from the other by the front end design – the electric has a solid slab where the hybrid has a radiator grille and a large air intake in the middle of the bumper. The EV also lacks a LED strip connecting the headlights, and the light units themselves look different. Panoramic glass roof and 18- and 19-inch wheels are available to both versions.
The Yunguang is 5,005 mm (195.5 in) long and 1,900 mm (74.2 in) wide with 2,900 mm (113.3 in) between the axles. The hybrid is 1,505 mm (58.8 in) tall while the EV is slightly shorter at 1,490 mm (58.2 in). It also weighs 30 kilos (66 pounds) less at 1,840 kg (4,056 lbs).
In all likelihood, Baojun will put separate digital dash and infotainment displays into the cabin, elevating them above the dashboard like it did in its other models. That said, there are no interior images at the moment.
For the powertrain, the plug-in hybrid will utilize a 1.5-liter IC engine rated at 143 PS (141 hp / 105 kW) and an unspecified electric motor. It will max out at 190 km/h (118 mph). The EV will pack 293 PS (289 hp / 216 kW) and will hit 170 km/h (105 mph). All we know about the batteries is that they will be composed of LiFePo4 cells – no volume or range figures yet. Gotion will supply the cells for the hybrid and Zenergy for the EV.
