New Beijing BJ30 presents exterior

BAIC has posted some photos of its upcoming second-generation Beijing BJ30 crossover. Some tech specs remain to be revealed, while others have already leaked from the Ministry of Industry database. The premiere is right around the corner, Autohome believes.

The first BJ30 model (see video) debuted in 2020. It was essentially a seriously redesigned BJ20 SUV from five years before. The second generation is both larger than the first and looks completely different.

The car is 4,730 mm (184.8 inches) long, 1,910 mm (74.6 in) wide and up to 1,790 mm (70 in) tall depending on the spec. It has 2,820 mm (110.1 in) between the axles. Compared to the old model, it is 225 mm (8.8 in) longer, 55 mm (2.1 in) wider and slightly taller with 145 mm (5.7 in) of extra space between the axles. This puts it into the same class as the Jetour T2.

From the design point of view, the front fascia is completely different with new headlights, radiator grille and bumper. What similarity the BJ30 had with Jeep off-roaders is gone. The sides and the rear with its vertical taillights have been completely reworked, too.

Judging by the spy shots posted by the media in China last fall, the new BJ30 is getting new dash and infotainment displays as well. The latter should become much bigger than the current version. The center tunnel is arranged in two tiers with a smaller transmission selector on top.

According to the patent info, the old 1.5-liter engine with 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) will be replaced with a same-size engine capable of 188 PS (185 hp / 138 kW). A hybrid powertrain based on a 1.5-liter engine should also be available.

We should learn more during the Auto China Beijing 2024 event starting next month.
