BAIC BJ60 gets a Maybach-style makeover in Shanghai

Along with the standard BAIC BJ60 SUV represented in China under the Beijing badge (see video), the company will soon start offering a luxurious special edition called Neon Shadow. Wherever you look, there is no avoiding Mercedes-Maybach associations.

The exterior of the vehicle is two-tone with a white top and a bright blue bottom. Chrome trim bits are abundant all around, and the 22-inch multi-spoke wheels filling out the arches sport a high polish. The design department says it drew inspiration from mountain snow (there’s a corresponding ornament on the dashboard) and the walls of the Forbidden City.

The powertrain stays untouched. In the case of the Beijing BJ60, it means a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine assisted by a 48-volt electric starter and sending 267 PS (263 hp / 196 kW) to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. All four wheels are driven with the help of a reduction gear, three diff locks and nine selectable drive modes.
