Bentley scoffs at the very idea of Level 3 self-driving

The British car manufacturer believes semi-autonomous cars not just useless, but actively dangerous.

The reason is that all electronic assists are designed so as to forgive minor slips on behalf of the driver and, as a consequence, incentivize drivers to pay less attention. At the same time, they are nowhere near advanced enough to rely upon in a dangerous situation.

Bentley’s response to it, interestingly enough, is to skip Level 3 self-driving technology and go straight for Level 4, which it believes should be safe enough.
