2021 Bentley Bentayga Speed debuts with same power, minimal updates

Just as expected, the range-topping Bentley Bentayga Speed received a mid-life refresh after its standard counterpart. The changes are there, but you will have to go looking for them to see any.

The exterior and interior redesigns follow the example of the standard Bentayga: new LED Matrix headlights move 30mm (1.2”) higher up, and the bumpers and radiator grille are new. Finally, there is a new tailgate with Continental GT-like brake lights on it. The wheels stay the same, as do the 285/40 R22 tires and brakes.

Inside, a digital instrument cluster comes to replace the analog dashboard, and new rectangular air vents sit where the old round ones used to be. The steering wheel is new, and the infotainment system receives a major overhaul with a 10.9-inch widescreen display, different GUI and added features. The Speed trim version ships with sports seats wrapped in leather and Alcantara, as well as abundant carbon fiber detailing. The HUD and sat-nav features are improved, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both supported.

When Bentley introduced the Bentayga Speed early last year, it emphasized its status of the world’s fastest crossover SUV. Heading into 2021, the model still relies on its 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 boosted to 635 hp (474 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft). Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) succeeds in mere 3.9 seconds, which is rather impressive for a vehicle weighing 2.5 metric tons (roughly 5,500 lbs). The top speed amounts to 306 km/h (190 mph).

Further notable enhancements include revised Sports Mode and torque vectoring system settings. The SUV can deactivate half of its cylinders to save fuel and coast on idle in gears from 5 to 8.

The 2021 Bentley Bentayga Speed will arrive on its key markets across the world later this year, the manufacturer reports.
