Stretched Bentley Bentayga spotted testing in Germany

When Bentley got rid of its flagship saloon Mulsanne several months ago, we were certain that a replacement was due for its EWB (Extended Wheelbase) version. We were correct: the updated Bentayga SUV spotted in Germany this weekend had more space between the axles than usual.

Other than that, the off-roader looked just like the regular Bentayga, minus the long rear doors. The amount of space added was around 20 centimeters (8 inches), which may not be much but will be appreciated by taller passengers sitting in the back row. As for the layout, there is little doubt the car still has only four seats total. The rear row will be represented by two large seats with plenty of electronic adjustments, massage, heating, ventilations and cushions for comfort. A limo-style partition wall to separate the front row from the rear might be offered as a paid option.

The car will come powered by its usual gasoline engines: the 4.0-liter V8 (550 PS / 542 hp / 404 kW) and the 6.0-liter W12 (625 PS / 616 hp / 460 kW). Judging by the exhaust, the test vehicle packs the latter.

Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark first mentioned the company’s wish to build an EWB Bentayga back in March this year. The cars will primarily be exported to Middle East and China markets, where it will compete against the likes of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS and the Range Rover Long. The premiere should take place in the coming months, but the shipments aren’t expected until next year.

With the Mulsanne discontinued, the Bentley Bentayga is the new flagship of the British marque. Watch the video if you would like an overview of its latest facelift.
