Bentley reveals footage of the triumphant Pikes Peak run

As we told in an earlier story, Bentley Bentayga has set a new high score in the SUV category at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The company revealed a video earlier today showing the gold-winning race from the driver’s perspective.

Rhys Millen, a New Zealand-born racing driver, has piloted his Bentayga along the 20-kilometer (12.42-mile) long track to the very summit of the Pikes Peak mountain in just 10 minutes 49.9 seconds. He had to enter 156 sharp curves before the summit.

It took six months for Bentley to build this award-winning copy of Bentayga. Compared to the stock version, it has better suspension, a new aerodynamic body kit, no noise proofing and little interior equipment. The tournament regulations also provided for the installation of a roll cage and an automatic fire extinguishing system.

The W12 gasoline engine remained completely unchanged, however. Capable of 608 hp (453 kW), it can accelerate the vehicle 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.1 seconds.

Analysts believe that the new Pikes Peak record won’t be going anywhere too soon.
