Lunaz Design, an up-and-coming company known for its outstanding electric conversions of classic cars, has recently tackled its rarest catch so far: a 62-year-old Bentley S2 Continental, allegedly one out of only four examples made. In addition to a new powertrain, the coupe ended up with a slew of other upgrades.
According to Lunaz, Bentley made around 400 S2 Continental models, but only four shipped as bare chasses and were given custom bodywork by independent coachbuilders in the UK.
The stock engine in this particular example made room for an electric motor rated at 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW) and 719 Nm (530 lb-ft) of torque. The car reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds with this kind of powertrain. We were unable to find any mention of the range, but we did find that it supported regenerative braking in addition to having normal six-piston brake calipers. The suspension was modernized and made adjustable, too.
The body was restored using the standard approaches to metal restoration, but the interior, in contrast, was re-trimmed from the ground up with modern eco-friendly materials. Plant matter was used to tan the natural leather inside, and recycled nylon fiber was used for the upholstery.
Lunaz did not mention any pricing info. It also did not specify whether it was its own project or a custom order.
