Famous photographer’s Bentley S-Type goes on sale next Sunday

A 67-year-old Bentley S-Type Continental once owned by German-Australian fashion photographer Helmut Newton will cross the auction block on October 8, 2023 estimated to cost between £1,000,000 and £1,500,000.

The car used to receive different stylistic treatments from coachbuilders worldwide. For example, 218 out of 431 units produced in 1955–1958 received their bodywork from Hj Mulliner. Only 26 out of those vehicles had the steering wheel on the left-hand side, and the one on sale in among them.

Packing a 4.9-liter six-cylinder engine rated at 178 PS (176 hp / 133 kW), the car was considered the world’s fastest vehicle in its class at the time.

Originally ordered by Société Anonyme des Automobiles Peugeot (translated as the Peugeot Anonymous Automobile Society) for the family of J. P. Peugeot, the car proceeded to be bought in 1964 by Helmut Newon, who was then 34. He sold it on eight years later.

Despite having less than 3,000 km (1,864 miles) on the odometer, the coupe has not preserved its original silver-and-black body finish and interior trim. On the other hand, its engine has been completely overhauled and runs flawlessly.
