Will the Bentley Continental GT outrace the BMW M8?

The Bentley Continental GT is a luxury vehicle capable of transporting people with utmost comfort and all the speed you can wish for. Still, in those rare cases when you can go as fast as the drivetrain allows, you would rather be in a BMW sports car, right? Carwow decided to figure that out.

In his latest video, Matt Watson pits a Continental GT Speed up against a BMW M8 Competition to see which one is the best in terms of straight-line acceleration and quarter-mile performance.

Starting with the curb weight, the M8 is quite a heavyweight in its segment with 1.9 metric tons (~4,200 pounds). Still, it isn’t nearly as heavy as its Bentley rival tipping the scales at 2.2 metric tons (4,850 lbs). To compensate for the extra bulk, the temperamental Brit utilizes a 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 capable of 659 PS (650 hp / 485 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque. The German ride makes do with eight cylinders and 4.4 liters of displacement, but isn’t too far behind with 625 PS (616 hp / 460 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal.

Transmission is another major distinction between the two. The Bentley runs on Porsche’s PDK tech, while the M8 uses the company’s standard eight-speed automatic.
