As Bentley started taking pre-orders for the part-electric modification of its Flying Spur sedan, certificates were published according to which the car has the best fuel and emission efficiency in the brand’s entire history by far.
First of all, the certificates confirmed a driving range in excess of 800 kilometers (500 miles). The company neglected to mention average fuel consumption, but did specify that the car produced mere 75 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer, making it the cleanest Bentley the world has ever seen.
The Flying Spur Hybrid premiered last summer with a 2.9-liter petrol V6 under the hood, an electric motor and an 18kWh traction battery. The combines output amounts to 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. The car needs 4.3 seconds to get from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) and offers around 40 kilometers (25 miles) of all-electric range.
The manufacturer emphasizes that the emission data prove its intention to go climate-neutral by the late 2020s. Every Bentley model is set to receive a part-electric version within the next couple of years, and a full-blown EV is set to debut in 2025. By the end of the decade, the automaker expects to have a versatile lineup of electric cars.
