Bentley has wrapped up the production of its iconic luxury saloon Mulsanne at the factory in Crewe, England.
Curiously enough, the photos and videos released with the announcement actually depict the last-but-one Mulsanne Speed 6.75 Edition. Painted Rose Gold and Tungsten and customized by Mulliner, this specific car will soon be shipped to its owner in the United States. As for the very last example, its appearance, specifications and buyer’s identity are being held secret.
The Mulsanne originally debuted at the Pebble Beach expo in 2009 and received a special edition by Mulliner three years afterward. Later on, it proceeded to gain a high-end modification called Speed, which packed a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V8, revised suspension and steering, and certain design improvements.
In 2016, the sedan went through a facelift and gained a long-wheelbase version (+25 cm / +10 inches). Bentley has produced 7,300 units in total.
The production end of the Mulsanne series also seals the fate of the classical 6.75-liter V8 mill with its six-decades-long history. The six-liter W12 will soon join it in the museum of discontinued Bentley engines.
This leaves the Flying Spur saloon at the pinnacle of the current Bentley range. Rumor has it that the British luxury automaker intends to design a new ultra-deluxe SUV in a few years that will be even larger than the Bentayga and dethrone the Flying Spur. This has no official confirmation yet.
