Famous BMW tuning company Manhart has unveiled a project based on the classic 2002 tii model from the 1970s. The coupe had already been rebuilt by Alpina before, but the German aftermarket specialist felt it needed some extra power, better suspension and a new interior. The result is up for grabs for $159,000.
Alpina’s original tuning program for the 2002 tii included installing a new manifold and throttle gate, among other things. The resulting output was estimated at 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) and 178 Nm (131 lb-ft) of torque.
]In its project, Manhart further improved air intake and added a custom exhaust system, raising the output to 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW) and 215 Nm (159 lb-ft) of torque in the process.
The suspension wound up with KW’s Raab Classics coilovers, while new strut braces helped keep the body rigid. Stock brakes made room for their more up-to-date counterparts borrowed from the E21 3-Series. The original 16-inch Alpina wheels were left as is, but the fenders were flared and 25mm (1-inch) wheel spacers were added for optimal centering.
A green and silver livery rounded things off on the outside. Inside, Manhart put similar accents on new Scheel seats.
The whole work was carried out by the German tuner’s newly founded subdivision called Classic Cars, so there should be more projects like this in the future.
