BMW has uploaded photos showing its compact 1-Series hatchback going through a series of road trials in southern France. Aside from the hatchback version, the car will also ship in the form of a FWD sedan/saloon. As for the official premiere, chances are BMW will hold it in September 2019.
It is now official that the BMW 1-Series will ship with a 2.0-liter gas turbo V4 rated at 302 hp / 225 kW – the same engine the sported-up BMW X2 M35i comes equipped with.
The car utilizes the UKL platform and offers 380 liters (13.4 cubic feet) of trunk space. Rear passengers now enjoy an extra 33 mm (1.3”) of legroom. Even in base, the driver will have access to the BMW Performance Control feature for precise torque distribution.
The BMW 1-Series took five years to conceptualize and design. Once it hits the market, it will most likely have to compete against the Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class for customer attention.
In March earlier this year, BMW started the production of the facelifted 7-Series.
