German car manufacturer BMW has released the first teaser pics of the new 1-Series, the smallest car in the lineup. Apart from the camouflaged hatchback you can see here, the range will include a sedan/saloon version. The premiere date hasn't been announced yet, but it will likely happen during the 2019 International Motor Show Germany.
The company spent five years designing the new 1-Series. Based on FAAR architecture, it is lighter than its predecessors while also offering more interior space. One major new feature comes in the form of an all-digital infotainment system.
After the initial sales launch, the company will start shipping the sported-up M135i trim version featuring an aggressive bumper design along with a Z4-like front grille.
The engine palette of the 2020 BMW 1-Series currently incorporates a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 300+ hp (224 kW). The transmission is automatic, and the car comes strictly front-driven. You can still take advantage of an M Sport differential and BMW's trademark torque vectoring system.
Once out, the model will primarily have to compete against the Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class for customer attention.
