Man builds a BMW 1-Series with M2 exterior, M4 drivetrain & cabin

Styling cheap cars to look expensive is one thing, but upgrading an entry-spec hatchback with performance parts is something else altogether. It tends to be both expensive and borderline pointless much of the time, but Abdul Rashid knew what he was doing with his inimitable BMW 1-Series-to-M4 conversion.

He started with a modest F20 1-Series, equipping it with an F87 M2 front clip including the bumper, the grille and the front wheel arches. He swapped the OEM front brakes out for 370mm (14.5-inch) M4 CS rotors and made the suspension adjustable. 19-inch BBS LM-R wheels slotted into their respective wells, and carbon fiber was used for the side mirror housings and the hood.

It is the engine bay where things get truly interesting, however. The 1.6-liter inline-four engine capable of 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque is no longer there. Instead, the once-tame 1-Series relies on a 3.0-liter inline-six mill rated at 431 PS (425 hp / 317 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque for propulsion. It is the same engine that powers the modern M3 and M4, and it makes over three times as much power as the old four-pot.

Rounding things off with style is an interior awash with M4 parts. Watch the full 14-minute video to find out how Abdul Rashid created this obscenely expensive, yet indisputably unique car.
