New BMW M1 hot hatch shows up for the first time

The Bavarian automaker is getting ready to unveil the next generation of the 1-Series. BMW M has just posted a teaser pic showing a darkened silhouette of a car, implying that the M version may debut simultaneously with the main one or even ahead of it. We should learn more in July when the premiere will take place, according to rumors.

Unofficial sources claim that the new BMW 1-Series isn’t as much new generation as it is just a comprehensive facelift. We also hear that the car will be sharing its platform and technology with the latest MINI Cooper. All of this remains to be confirmed.

For its own part, BMW M stays silent about any technical details. It’s still unknown whether the company will release an M1 flagship or continue to make do with the current top spec, the M135i. The latter packs a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 306 PS (302 hp / 225 kW) and needs 4.8 seconds to go from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph). With a bit of further tuning, this five-door hatchback could become a serious rival to the Audi RS 3.

If our informers are correct and the new 1-Series gets unveiled in July, then the production will most likely start in early 2025.
