BMW has announced the top trim versions of its X5 and X7 SUVs, second only to the M series (X5M) in terms of performance. Let us have a closer look at the differences between the two.
Both versions ship with the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine capable of producing 530 horsepower (395 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lbĂ—ft) of torque. The M850io coupe and convertible also use the same engine, but the X5/X7 variant sports a number of notable technical improvements, including new cylinder heads, barrels, pistons, and housings. Partnered to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system, the drivetrain accelerates the X5 from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds and the X7 in 4.7 s.
By default, both models ship with adaptive air suspension, an M diff lock, performance brakes, and 21-inch wheels. Options include rear-wheel steering and active roll stabilizers.
The BMW X5 M50i and X7 M50i will hit the showrooms in the coming autumn.
