BMW 1 Series gets treated to an M3 engine

‘Frankencar’ is tuner slang for a car made up of components scavenged from multiple different vehicles, often from different brands, with generally so-so results. This Frankenstein BMW 1M aspires for the same fame (infamy?) – but it is actually kind of good.

The project starts with a BMW 135i chassis and 1M bodywork, but its true highlight comes in the form of a high-RPM engine taken straight out of an E92 BMW M3. We’re told that the S65B40 V8 pushes out 420 hp (313 kW) along with 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, so it appears a good fit for the 1-Series, despite its largely simpler tech.

You may be tempted into thinking the Frankenstein BMW 1M also packs an Akrapovic exhaust, but what you see here are just the tips, the rest of the system stays stock.

Overall, we’d say the creator of this one sold it short when they named it a Frankencar!
