This is the ninth BMW model assembled in its factory in Leipzig, Germany. Sales will begin in the spring of 2020.
The Leipzig factory has gone through an extensive upgrade recently. The painting facility has been thoroughly overhauled, the metalforming lines have been extended to enable higher throughput, and the assembly and logistics departments have been optimized in numerous ways. The total investment amounted to €300,000,000, and the current nominal production capacity amounts to 1,000 cars / day.
The sedan, which the company prefers to call a ‘Four-Door Coupe’, comes based on a front-wheel drive chassis and offers a choice between a diesel motor (190 hp, or 142 kW) and two gasoline engines. The latter includes a 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder TSI with 140 hp (104 kW) and a 2.0-liter, 4-cyl. TSI with 306 hp (228 kW) at its command. The latter comes bundled with an all-wheel drive system based on a Torsen differential.
