The BMW 2 Series is no longer ‘Made in Germany’ – at least, not necessarily, now that production started in Mexico. The lines have been running since early September, and the company decided to mark the milestone by making something special.
The BMW 2 Series art car pictured here dons the combined flag colors of Germany and Mexico, a symbolic union of the two countries where it was designed and made. A total of eight colors was used, requiring over six liters of paint and nearly three liters of lacquer.
The Bavarian automaker emphasizes that the paintjob was applied by hand, layer after layer. The process is apparently rather demanding, “due to the sheer number of curves,” and took five weeks to complete.
This specific art car will not be available for sale in the foreseeable future, but BMW Individual might come up with a similar paint scheme for the production car later on.
