BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe patented in China with some specs

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and IT has received its latest patent submission from an automaker. It describes the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe sedan slated to debut before the end of the year.

The images depict two modifications of the car – 225L and M235L. They have their own, distinct grille patterns and wheels. The M235L additionally sports a small spoiler on the trunk lid, red brake calipers and quad exhaust tips. We are hearing rumors that the BMW M Package may become a part of the standard spec in China soon, thanks to its popularity.

The new 2-Series saloon is 4,663 mm (182.1 inches) long with 2,780 mm (108.6 inches) between the axles. This is 137 and 110 mm (5.3 and 4.3 inches) longer than the previous generation. While not official, it is clear that the new car rides on the same front-wheel-drive chassis named “UKL” as the recently unveiled 1-Sereis hatchback. The similarities at the front end are particularly telling.

Buyers will be choosing from three petrol turbo engines. There is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder option good for 174 PS (172 hp / 128 kW), a 2.0-liter mill with 227 PS (224 hp / 167 kW), and another version of the same engine boosted to 335 PS (330 hp / 246 kW). AutoHome.cn believes that the 1.5L version may actually stay in the patent database and never go on sale.
