2022 BMW 2 Series Active Tourer spied on the way to the market

BMW’s first front-wheel-drive 2 Series – the Active Tourer – is getting ready to debut in its new generation. The spy photos reveal a partly cladded car that looks almost ready for production.

The side mirrors are now mounted on the doors, rather than the pillars, the radiator grille becomes larger, and the design in general seems more refined than the current generation.

It would also seem that the five-door hatchback being tested has a longer-than-usual wheelbase, promising more precious cabin and trunk space. Engines remain unannounced, but we expect three- and four-cylinder turbos to make the cut, some of them hybridized. A full-fledged EV is going to join the lineup, too, but how soon remain debatable.

As for the announcement, it looks like BMW could unveil the next-gen 2 Series Active Tourer at the upcoming IAA Munich 2021.
