2nd-gen BMW 2 Series Active Tourer debuts with specs, dates and pricing

The front-wheel-drive BMW 2 Series Active Tourer first hit the showrooms in 2014, and after a few updates rumors speculated that it might be discontinued soon. These have now been debunked with the advent of the second generation.

The new Active Tourer looks considerably different from its predecessor: sportier and even somewhat aggressive. The radiator grille is larger, the pillars thinner, the door handles recessed, and the dual tailpipes concealed for extra style points.

Interior changes are just as prominent. A single curved display now combines the digital dash cluster and the infotainment screen into a single unit. Hardware buttons are kept down to a minimum. The center console at the front end houses a wireless smartphone charger and two cup holders. The sport seats are likewise new, and there is an airbag tucked in between them.

Power comes from mild hybrids rated at 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) and 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW), a three-cylinder engine good for 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW), and a diesel producing 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW). The corresponding 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint times are 8.1, 7.0, 9.0, and 8.8 seconds.

Two plug-on hybrids rated at 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) and 326 PS (321 hp / 240 kW) will be added to the lineup next summer.

Sales in Germany will start on February 26, 2022 from €34,750.
